What’s a Good Score?

April 18, 2008

So you’ve checked out what we have to say on Diet and Nutrition and Exercise and now you’ve filled out the Daily Challenge Team Roster Scorecard for a week.  How do you know if you have a good score?  First of all, a good score is one that beats your NFL fantasy opponent team that week!  But let’s dig a little deeper.

For fantasy football veterans, it is already understood that weekly consistency is very difficult to achieve, and greatly desired for your fantasy team.  The same lineup that scores 100 points this week, could struggle to break 50 the next.  This is where the game aspect of Fantasy Healthball really comes out.  Of course, we want to strive for consistent high scores, but as we all struggle to meet these weekly health challenges, the inevitable question will come up, have I done enough this week?  We’d like to believe we will all strive for maximum scores every week, but we all have our moments of weakness.  This is a very natural thought process we all will be presented with at some time.

While the most die-hard NFL football fan will believe he or she knows what is going to happen this upcoming Sunday, the league has a way of always surprising with it’s results.  Parity has found it’s way to the NFL, and there is a lot of truth to the cliche, anyone can beat anyone on any given Sunday.  Therefore, when trying to determine if you’ve amassed enough points to win, it will be very difficult to predict most times.

You’re Fantasy Healthball score of 80 may win one week, and lose the next.  However, you should be able to figure out a reasonable probability for yourself.  Of course, there are no guarantees.  For example,  the maximum score you can receive in a week of Fantasy Healthball is 169.  A ‘good’ score usually will be in the 90’s.  Getting to triple digits always feels good.  If you score 100 points in Fantasy Healthball, you figure you may win 80% or more of the time.  Over 100 raises your probability of winning.  But, you never know when your opponent is going to put up that 140 score and beat you despite your best efforts.  The only thing you can do is tip your cap to your opponent for a huge scoring week, and get ready to get back at it on Monday.  This uncertainty of how your NFL fantasy opponent will fair will push you to do your best week in and week out.  You can’t let up, because your NFL opponents likely won’t!  Next, we’ll blog post some actual scores and comments from players — Jim Ballard
